Why You Should Invest In HBA-Aiken Membership?

Your dues investment provides you with three membership in one. The first $150.00 of your annual dues goes to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) entitling you to full membership in the national organization. The next $90.00 goes to the HBA of South Carolina so that you also become a member of the state organization. The final $185.00 is for your local membership in the HBA of Aiken County.

At the national level, the NAHB serves Aiken both politically and operationally. It is the 11th strongest lobby in Congress. NAHB constantly supports pro-building industry issues and opposes or neutralizes anti-building industry legislation.

The NAHB provides immediate responses to local legal questions and organizes the national conferences. It sends representatives to local meetings to conduct workshops such as long range planning and produces the extensive literature and communications service to be used at the local level. Last, but not least, these dues support part-time and full-time employee salaries.

Two of our own members represent us at the NAHB level. They are Mike Caldwell and Herb Witter. They are serving as National Directors and are required to attend national meetings. As your current President, I also serve on the HBA of South Carolina's Board of Directors.

At the state level, you become a member of the HBA of SC with more than 5,600 other builder and associate members. The state association's objective is to create an environment where builders can prosper which they do by monitoring government at all levels. Their small staff deals with state legislators, returns monies for local and state political candidates and serves for our most immediate questions that occur on a day-to-day basis.

At the local level, our Aiken HBA uses the dues to pay for our two part-time employees and for all the activities you see happening. This includes all the organization needed to produce the newsletter, organize meetings such as the IRC Workshop, run the office, and make the day by day people contacts that keep us vital in the community, state and nation.
